THE PACK DYNAMiCS ! creating / joining a pack 01. Packs may be created at will by any member, so long as you meet the following requirements;
B. All characters wanting to create a pack must have been active on the site for at least one week. C. There must be an alpha already chosen, and that character must be at at least three years old (therefore an adult) and have been active on the site for at least two weeks before trying to create a pack. Exceptions are granted if having a single alpha doesn't fit with the pack's hierarchy/purpose/etc. D. There must be some sort of IC intent expressed between all characters that they wish to create a pack. All characters meeting for the first time in one thread and agreeing is unacceptable. That said, it is acceptable for the potential alpha to meet and ask other characters in various threads and then have everyone meet in a single thread. E. Characters, including the alpha, wishing to create a pack must remain in the pack for at least one week. This is to ensure that packs will maintain some sort of activity. 02. A pack must have at least one land, and they must have a headquarters at all times. 03. If the land a pack's headquarters resides on is taken over, the pack must immediately move their headquarters to another land in their territory, or, if they have no other territory, claim a land and set up a new headquarters. If no new headquarters is set up within one RL week, the pack will be disbanded. 04. Activity within a pack is a must. There must be at least one thread a week in pack territory, concerning at least two pack members. After two weeks of no post, the pack will be considered inactive and disbanded. 05. All pack alphas are required to post at least once a week in an IC area on the site, and keep their pack information board as up-to-date as possible. A reminder will be given if a pack information board has gone stale, but if it has been two weeks and an alpha has not posted in the IC area, they will be considered inactive and the pack will either fall to the next in command, or be disbanded. 06. When creating a character, you have the option to jump straight into a pack. This is done by putting the name of the pack and the rank you wish to hold within the pack. Staff will notify the pack alpha(s), and the alpha(s) will have final say. 07. If you do not wish to jump straight into a pack, then you have the option of creating a loner and roleplaying your character's attempt to join the pack. This is done by creating your character as a loner, waiting for them to be accepted, then posting in the pack's territory seeking to join their ranks. It is considered polite to tag the pack alpha(s) in your post (using the @ symbol followed by their username). However, whatever pack member(s) has/have been appointed the authority of accepting new members can reply, and the roleplay will continue from there. 08. Some packs may only accept certain qualities in a character. Such as you must be a wolf, or you have to be a purebred german shepherd, etc. It is always a good idea to read through the pack's information board so that you can have a good idea of whether you will want to join or not. resources and pack numbers 01. There are resources attached to every land that can support a specific amount of canines--they are listed in the land's description. Loners and pups do not pull on a land's resources. 02. If a pack reaches its resource limit, they cannot accept new members until they claim more territory and grow their resources. Characters wanting to join the pack will be put on hold (or made into loners) until the pack has claimed more land and has enough resources to allow them. 03. The alpha of a pack can purchase Extra Resources from the Shop, using either their own pawprints or pawprints from their pack fund. These resources will apply toward a single land, chosen by the purchaser, and will raise the resources by a random number between 3 and 7. This is a permanent change to the land, however, and does not follow a pack if they lose that territory or otherwise abandon it. 04. A wolf or dog may become pregnant at any time, even when a pack has reached its resource limit. The pups will not pull on resources until they become young adults at 1 year old. Once the pups reach young-adulthood, however, the pack must have resources to support them. If the resources are not available, then the pups (now young adults) will be forced out of the pack and made into loners. hierarchy / purpose 01. There is no set way that a pack can be run. If you are the alpha, you can do whatever you want with your pack. Run it like a real pack, a human caste system, a theocracy, or whatever you see fit. However you want to structure and run your pack, feel free. So long as you keep in mind that slaves are only tentatively allowed, and follow all other site rules. 02. A pack may have no purpose, or may have any purpose you'd like. They can simply be trying to survive, or they can be striving to make a change in the world. It is completely up to the alpha. 03. While we encourage imagination and appreciate uniqueness, we don't appreciate copycats. If a new pack too closely resembles an existing one, we might ask for a few changes to better distinguish them. When regarding hierarchy specifically, we don't have anything against the typical alpha, beta, etc. but we won't allow exact copies of existing hierarchies, either. events 01. We have a unique way of doing prey/predator encounters here on WTMS. Instead of having one member playing their character and prey/predator, we allow a member to request someone else to play the prey/predator for them. This means that, for one thread, you could play any number of animal (and, for a short time of the plot, even a human!). These are called Events. 02. If you would like to have an event, simply create your thread for the event, then post in the Event Request board using the appropriate format. There is no restriction on the number or frequency of events you are allowed. Go wild! 03. A coin will be tossed by a staff member before each event to determine the outcome--whether it be the prey is caught/escapes, the predator is defeated/escaped from, or a character is captured/escapes. Whatever the coin decides may be played out however you wish, but you must come to the predetermined end. Staff will post with the coin's determination at the beginning of the thread. If you disagree with the outcome that the coin decided, you may choose to forfeit the Event. This comes at a cost, however, as you must wait one RL week before requesting another event if you choose to forfeit. 04. Whomever is requesting a prey/predator gets a say in deciding what type of animal it is. You may request any type of animal that would be found in North America, but you must remain realistic for the geographical location the hunt is taking place in. You won't find an alligator in the Rolling Plains, and you aren't going to run across a bear in the sewers. Keep in mind that the animal that appears may not be exactly what you requested. In the end it will be up to the member taking the request. 05. The interactions involving the human Mobile Unit will only take place in the Mobile Unit board, and the requesting member has no say in the gender or number of humans that appear. That will be up to the member who takes the request. There will still be a staff-tossed coin to determine whether a character is caught or escapes, so keep in mind that there will be inherent risk in having an interaction with the Mobile Unit. 06. There will be a reward of 15 pawprints after each hunt, predator attack, or Mobile Unit encounter, for all characters involved, regardless of success or failure. 07. Events can take place anywhere (with the exception of the Mobile Unit) and with any number of canines. 08. If you have requested an event, a member has taken the event, and then gone inactive, you may put the request up again. If it is too much trouble, or you are having problems, feel free to contact a staff member and we will get it taken care of immediately. |
