FAQ ! help us ! Any question posed to the staff, whether posted on this board or by contacting a staff member directly, will be answered here. Help us make WTMS a less confusing place by asking your questions! :D
To quickly find a question you have, use Ctrl + F on your keyboard, and type in a keyword such as "Breeding." This will search the page for that keyword, and likely bring you to the question you had, and the corresponding answer. If you are on a Mac, use the Apple Key + F instead of Ctrl. out of character Questions in this category may be answered by reviewing the Getting Started, Joining, In Character, and Plot pages of the Handbook.
Q. I’ve never heard the terms “Metagame,” "God Modeling," or "Powerplaying," what do they mean?
A. In short, the term "metagame" refers to a role-player taking information that they know out of character and utilizing it in character. As an example: Lionne has a character named Astrick. Astrick has just met Comma. Comma has a secret about their past, which they have never told anyone. Lionne makes it so that Astrick knows this secret, even though Comma has never told Astrick about it.
The term "God Modeling" means to present your character as invincible, infallible, or generally possessing of abilities unfair to other roleplayers (like a god). Example: Astrick and Comma are fighting. Comma tries to bite Astrick multiple times, but Astrick moves out of the way every time and, when Astrick is bitten, they suffer no damage and feel no pain.
The term "Powerplaying" refers to roleplaying another person's character in your posts, or otherwise stating what will happen. Example: Astrick and Comma are running through the woods. Astrick leaps gracefully over a log and turns to watch as Comma smacks their face straight into it.
Q. Where are Sang City and Red Rock Rise? Are they next to each other?
A. Sang City is within the United States of America, while Red Rock Rise spans across the USA and Canada, as well as part of Mexico, thereby just putting it 'in North America,' and not belonging to a single country. The exact location of either place is unknown, and intentionally left this way. However, Sang City is not next to Red Rock Rise. They aren't even close. It would be safer to assume that they are hundreds of miles apart, and therefore inhabitants of one would not be able to reach the other. Dogs in Sang City might know of the reserve, as the humans of the world are simply abuzz about it, but wolves would have no knowledge of Sang City.
Q. Can my wolf have wandered onto the reserve, or have already lived there, instead of coming from a breeding facility?
A. In short, no. The reserve is man-made, and all animals within it have been stocked by humans. The reserve is also enclosed by a ten-foot electrified chain-link fence that also extends three feet underground, which means that no animals are crossing in or out of the reserve. At this point in the plot, wolves will have to have come from a breeding facility and been released onto the reserve.
Q. Can my wolf live in Sang City? Or my dog in Red Rock Rise?
A. No, and wolves will never be able to inhabit Sang City. At least, not for the foreseeable future. At this point in the plots, all dogs live within Sang City, and all wolves live within Red Rock Rise. As the site grows and the plot advances, living arrangements will change.
Q. I want to create a wolf x dog hybrid. Why can’t I?
A. Currently, wolf x dog hybrids are not available through creation, but they are always available through breeding of two characters. There is a catch, however. At this point in the plot, wolves and dogs are in two separate locations, and cannot interact. Dogs are in Sang City, a metropolis somewhere in the United States. Wolves are in Red Rock Rise Animal Reserve, located on the North American continent. Later in our site plot, wolfdog hybrids will have a huge part to play. For now, however, you can only create dogs or wolves, no hybrids.
There is a way around this, sort of. The closest you can get to a hybrid is either a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, or a Saarloos Wolfdog. It is important to note that both of these breeds are still dogs, though they were originally created by pairing wolves with dogs. Both breeds have gone through countless generations of selective breeding, further removing them from the original hybrids, and have since become classified as dogs, not hybrids. If you create a Czech or Saarloos character, they cannot have wolf anywhere in their lineage.
Q. If I have a thread that took place in a season other than the breeding season, can I wait and turn it in during the breeding season?
A. If the thread was finished before the breeding season (winter), then it can not count as a breeding thread for winter. However, if the thread was started before winter, but finished during winter, then it can be turned in as a breeding thread.
fighting/claiming Questions in this category may be answered by reviewing the Confrontation page of the Handbook.
Q. To claim a territory to start a new pack, do you need to ask for the three members to join in the claiming thread, or could it just be open?
A. Yes, you need the three members to join in the claiming thread, and all characters must have agreed IC to claim a land and start a pack prior to the claiming thread. Leaving the thread open for characters beyond the three members to join is entirely up to you.
Q. Is there a certain place that fights have to take place?
A. No. Fights can happen anywhere over anything.
Q. Do all fights have to be judged?
A. No. If you and your opponent have already decided the outcome (who will win, lose, or whether it will be a draw), then the fight doesn't have to be judged. If, however, you have not, will not, or can not, agree on an outcome, staff will judge the fight. When a fight takes place and needs to be judged, you can post it in the Fight Notification board, within the Contact The Staff board.
Packs/Gangs Questions in this category may be answered by reviewing the Pack Dynamics page of the Handbook.
Q. What is the difference between a pack and a gang?
A. A pack is comprised of wolves, and a gang is comprised of dogs. We have made this distinction so that, later in the plot when living arrangements change, they will be easily distinguishable.
Q. Can my pack/gang own any land? And is there a limit to how many lands a pack/gang can have?
A. Yes, and sort of. So long as you keep in mind that, at this stage in the plot, dogs must remain in the city, and wolves must remain on the reserve, a pack/gang can claim any land that hasn't already been claimed. They can also challenge for a land that has already been claimed.
There is no set limit for how many lands a pack/gang can have. Monopolies, where one pack/gang owns all lands, are even allowed, but every pack is limited by their ability to defend their lands. For example: If a pack/gang only has five members, it might not be wise to go out and claim ten lands. They simply wouldn't be able to defend their territory properly.
Currency & The Store Questions in this category may be answered by reviewing the Currency page of the Handbook.
Q. Do my characters have to buy items separately, or can I transfer pawprints between my accounts?
A. This is a question that requires two answers. First of all, you can absolutely transfer pawprints between any/all of your accounts. To do so, you simply need to post in the Pawprint Station within the Banker's Desk, and a staff member will pop over as soon as possible to do it for you.
Second; Whichever account purchases an item, will be the only account to receive that item. If you want to transfer items between accounts, you can do so at the Item Window, also within the Banker's Desk.
Q. Once I purchase an item, how do I get it?
A. The moment you purchase the item, it is added to your account's inventory. There's nothing else you need to do. To see what items are in your account's inventory, simply visit your profile page, and your items will be listed as their icons.
Q. Can one of my characters give an item to another of my characters, or to another person's character?
A. Yes, but it has to have a valid IC reason and explanation before the item can be transferred between accounts. Astrick can't just give Comma a Lesser Healing Potion without ever having met Comma. Unless Astrick 'accidentally' left the potion and Comma found it.
Giving items from an OOC account to an IC account has the same requirement. You must explain how the character came across the item.
Q. Where do I keep the items I purchase?
A. Though the item icons will appear on the profile page of the account that owns them, you must have an IC place to store items. Accessories such as collars or piercings don't need to be 'kept' anywhere, as they are carried on your body. Everything else that is tangible, however, needs to either be stored in a den, or carried in a satchel. Having 'invisible pockets,' as its called where you simply have an item when and where you need it, without having a container such as a bag, is not allowed.

Q. How do I get the items I create, and where do I keep them?
A. To receive items in your profile inventory that your character has created IC, simply post in the Item Window, with a link to the thread where the item was created, and what item was created. Once staff makes sure that the right process has been followed, they'll ad it to your account.
