PHYSiCAL DESCRiPTiON. Haelga is an average height, with an average build. Strong, sturdy legs, though they are naturally shorter than most other wolf species. A thick chest with powerful shoulders and neck. Her muzzle is just a bit longer than other species, and, when paired with her shorter limbs, she appears just a tad ill-proportioned. Don't be fooled, however, she suffers no genetic defects, and is as strong and agile as any other.
Aside from the frame of the wolf, she is a vibrant display of colors. Blacks, oranges, tans, whites, all come together in a strange pattern that, somehow, makes her other 'short-comings' less noticeable. Most notably, Haelga's face and muzzle are overlaid with black, but a deep orange accentuates her eyes, brows, and cheeks. Her front legs are tan, with a single black strip that comes down from her shoulder and ends at her paws.
Haelga's best feature, according to many, is her eyes. An intense molten gold, surrounded by fiery umber. With a simple look, her gaze appears to pierce right through you. Because of this, few wolves find themselves willing to further irritate her once she gives them such a stare.
PERSONALiTY. Haelga is a tough individual, with no tolerance for stupidity or uselessness. If you can't pull your own weight, you can't learn, then you aren't worth her time. This isn't to say she is cruel--though certainly she has been called thus--she believes in giving everyone a fair chance, but others only get one chance. Fail that chance, and she will deem you a hindrance and move on. Survival, after all, is of the utmost importance in life. If you cannot survive, you cannot reproduce, and continuing the generations is one's lot in life. Haelga fully intends to uphold that truth, and find the male with the strongest survival traits with which to breed, giving her pups the best chance to not only survive, but thrive.
Despite her rather rough outlook on life, Haelga is surprisingly uninterested in dominance games. To get into a brawl with another wolf is risking injury, and injury could mean death in the wild. If one couldn't hunt, they couldn't survive. Simple as that. She simply excludes herself from the typical dominance hierarchy, uncaring to establish herself above or below other wolves when she meets them. If another wolf attempts to dominate her, she will circumvent then, when possible, and go about her way. However, if one is quite persistent, to the point of not allowing her to leave, Haelga isn't afraid to fight. When she does fight, she attempts to intimidate her opponent, get them to back off just long enough, and make her way out of the situation. It hasn't come down to a true life and death scenario for her, so she isn't sure how she'd react to a truly serious wolf who was bent on killing or maiming her. Everything happens for the first time at some point.
Love. Love is just a fancy fluffed up word used by those bleeding heart romantics. Haelga is not interested in love. She is interested in the strongest male, with the best traits, to provide her offspring the greatest chance. Though she understands that some form of a bond might develop between her and her mate (or mates, if one proves incapable as previously thought), she isn't interested in pursuing it. She imagines that the bond she will have will be born from the desire to keep the male alive in order to keep reproducing, and nothing more. The bond she will have with her offspring will be one of maternal instinct--the desire to see her pups grow and prosper, learn to survive this world--but little more. Of course, she does care for others, but her care is only a mechanism of instinct.
HiSTORY. Haelga was born to a pair of wolves who are of very similar mind to her own. They understood that their job was to reproduce, so that their offspring would populate what the humans were calling 'the reserve,' and they took their responsibility very seriously. Bjonk, her mother, taught her and her siblings--she was born in a litter of five, two females and three males--how to hunt, working with the limited space and prey that was available in their enclosure. Haelga quickly understood that stealth and patience were just as important as having another wolf hunting with her. Often, she and her siblings would work in tandem when hunting, one wolf flushing the prey out, the others taking it down. Of course, the only prey that they could attain in their enclosure were rabbits, squirrels, and birds, though the humans did send in a live deer on one occasion.
Haelga and her siblings were allowed to stay with their parents, learning all they could, until they were a year old, and a new litter was born. Haelga was able to welcome her newborn brothers and sisters for a single day, then her and her littermates were ushered into their own enclosure. She never forgot the sheer wonder and awe she felt, the tugging in her chest, when she first laid eyes on the tiny wriggling things. From that point on, she knew that she needed to have pups. That she needed to learn how to best survive, so that she could ensure the best traits were going to be passed on.
During the couple of years she was held at the breeding facility, her brothers, as they came of age, attempted to persuade her to mate with them. Instinct bared her fangs and gashed their flesh whenever they tried. Finally, when they all hit three years old, they were given separate enclosures, and mates for breeding. Unfortunately, the mates Haelga was given were unworthy. They were weak, timid, or they cared too much for who would be in control, but had no true survival skills. Haelga rejected nearly five males before the humans decided she would be better of on the reserve, finding her own male.
A dart in the shoulder to sedate her, a trip in a noisy cramped crate, and she was free.
