PHYSiCAL DESCRiPTiON. Ricochet is what is known as a "Warlock" Doberman. This is a term given to Dobermans which are larger than the standard size the kennel clubs have placed on the breed. Ricochet qualifies as a Warlock, even though she is larger by a mere two inches for her sex. This is a point of unadulterated pride for her owner, and he has made sure to crop her ears and tail, and keep her on a strict exercise regimen to keep her muscle thick.
Ricochet's ears, as stated previously, are cropped. Though her owner knew nothing about how to do it himself, he spent the money to have it done professionally, and made sure to post her ears for longer than necessary simply to make sure they stood perfectly. Her tail was docked at birth, also by the same professional who did her ears when she was 8 weeks old, and folds perfectly, hiding any indication that it used to be full-length at one time. Ricochet retains her dew claws, her owner believing they made her look tough.
Due to the daily grueling exercise she receives, Ricochet is a bit more stocky than the rest of her breed. She has a particularly deep chest, with strong shoulders, and a thick muscular neck. Without moving, her muscles are well-defined in every part of her body. Her deep chest means she has incredible stamina, but her thicker frame means reduced agility.
Her coat is the typical black and tan of the Doberman, and kept glinting by the daily grooming of her owner, and remarkably clear of scars. Her teeth are pearly white, as brushing is part of the grooming routine. Eyes are a rust color, again typical of her breed. It is quite clear that she is well maintained, and her appearance augmented by her owner, giving her an overall intimidating aura.
PERSONALiTY. In spite of her decidedly intimidating appearance, Ricochet is quite amiable. Though her owner would much prefer she be one hell of a bitch, the Doberman is the opposite. When approached by another dog, pleasant conversation is always appreciated, and friendly relations on the fore of her intentions. She is analytic in nature, and often tends to over-think things. This has given her a unique intelligence, and an ability to recognize and learn new patterns quickly. To her owner, this is a great boon. He has been able to train her to do even the most complicated tricks and maneuvers, and she does it without treats. She does it simply because she understands and appreciates that he teaches her.
Loyal is an understatement. To Ricochet, her owner is her life. She lives to do as he asks and to protect him from any and all threats. Though he does have his vices, drinking being one of them, her owner has done nothing to lessen her utter devotion to him. She would follow him to the ends of the earth if he would only ask. Time spent alone in the house is nerve-wracking. How is she supposed to know if Alex is okay when he leaves her alone? She understands the importance of him leaving to the grease-smelling place--he would bring back green leaves that he would then give to the apartment complex's landlord, and the landlord would allow them to stay in their home for another month--but she cannot understand why he leaves and goes to the alcohol place, stumbling back in through the door and passing out on the couch without even closing the front door.
Though she would do most anything her owner would ask of her, she still retains her own morals. If he asked her to attack without reason, she would do it, but she would not seriously injure the target. Instead she would take them down, hold them, maybe just scare them into leaving. If they pose no perceivable threat, they don't deserve to be hurt. Simple as that.
HiSTORY. Ricochet was born to purebred Doberman parents: Silver Bullet, a grey and tan male, and Athena, a black and tan female. Her parents were owned by different people, Silver Bullet having been used as a stud to impregnate Athena. The resulting litter was raised with their mother, taken very well care of, and sold one by one to the highest payers. They were german-line Doberman Pinschers, after all, and sired by the famous show-dog, Silver Bullet. People were chomping at the bit to buy a pup.
The man who purchased Ricochet was not a rich man. Alex Parker was a grease-monkey, a mechanic at the local auto-shop. He had saved his money for nearly four years, putting back only a few dollars a paycheck, in order to afford a purebred Doberman Pinscher. After a couple of thousand dollar cash exchange with Athena's owner, he walked away with an 8-week-old Ricochet tucked under his arm.
Almost immediately the training began. Alex knew little of how to train dogs, but did his best to teach Chet [pronounced shay] (as he called her affectionately) the basics. Sit, down, how to walk on a leash, to potty outside. She was only ten weeks old when he enrolled her in a training program that, even today, she still attends.
There was no specific reason for Alex wanting a dog, he was no police officer, not a show dog competitor, not even a breeder. More than anything he craved companionship, but it wouldn't hurt to have a little protection in this rough part of the neighborhood. There were few people who would want to mug him again when he had a 70 pound Doberman walking beside him. When he enrolled Ricochet in training, he made sure he went to the very best training academy, and made sure she was taught anything and everything he could afford--even if it meant skipping a meal or two for himself.
After three years of loyal devotion, on both the dog and the human's part, their relationship is stronger than ever. There is nothing Ricochet wouldn't do for Alex, and nothing Alex wouldn't do for her.
