OVERViEW.

okay, so let me start by saying that i SUCK at explaining things. however, i will do my absolute best to not leave you completely confused.

my wolf character, Darastrix, will be creating a wolf pack based on some ideas borrowed from the video game, Skyrim. the entire pack will be taught to speak dovahzul, the language of the dov (dragonkind). the pack will also have a culture and customs much like the Nords from Skyrim. each member will also be given a dovah (dragon) name when they join the pack, which they will be addressed by, and will address other members by their respective dovah names. the pack will also have different missions available that members can take and complete IC to earn either pawprints, items, or IC rewards. basically, it will be very in-depth and involved, offering plenty of room for plots, relationships, and, of course, TONS of roleplay. i warn you, this will not be for the faint of heart.

that was the very basic synopsis. now let's get into the real fun stuff.

LANGUAGE.

the Tahsedov (pack of dragonkind) will speak dovahzul, the language of the dov (dragonkind). to make it easy for those of you whom don't know about Skyrim, or aren't as nerdy as i am and haven't learned dovahzul, we provide a resource at Thuum.org for all of your translation, learning, and language needs. if you still need help understanding how to properly use dovahzul, i will personally be more than happy to help you. just let me know.

now, since every member of the pack will be taught dovahzul, they will be expected to speak it when around other pack members. they are not required to do so, however, and can just as easily speak english (or grohiikzul {wolf voice}, as the pack calls it). whenever dovahzul is used in an IC post, translations are required at the bottom of each post. just to make it easy for everyone :3

i fully intend to put a simple guide to dovahzul in the pack information board/thread/thingy when the pack gets created, so don't worry too much.

NAMiNG.

given that the pack speaks dovahzul, and refers to themselves not as grohiikke (wolves), but as dovahhe (dragons) {though they are well aware that they are actually wolves, not dragons physically}, they take after the dovah (dragon) way of naming.

each member, when they join the pack, is given a dovahfaan (dragon name). all pack members are to call each other by their respective dovahfaanne (dragon names).

a dovahfaan is comprised of three dovahzul words that describe the wolf in some way. the common names describe looks and personality, but can also describe feats that the wolf has accomplished, or even state their reputation. for example: a small quick wolf with a white pelt and a sharp tongue might be called "Malkinzonvun." if you plug that word into the translator at Thuum.org, you won't get a translation. this is because the three words have been smooshed together to create one word, a name. in order to get the translation, you need to separate the words: mal, kinzon, and vun. now you will receive a proper translation: small sharp tongue.

each roleplayer is allowed to either choose their character's dovahfaan, or allow Darastrix to choose one for them. if you do not like the dovahfaan Dara chooses, simply tell me and i will suggest more until we find one you like. it is your character, after all, not mine, who is receiving a secondary name.

when a character joins the pack and is given a dovahfaan, it is requested that you change your character's account display name to reflect this. for example: Darastrix's dovahfaan is Sotyolrahgol (white fire rage). once she takes that name i would then change her account's display name to "Darastrix (Sotyolrahgol)". again, this is not required, it's only if you want to. it's just a way to get more involved in the pack culture :3

CUSTOMS.

along with speaking dovahzul, Tahsedov will have many customs for many areas of their collective life. i intend to start with a few, but i really want the pack members to come up and decide on more. again, a way to get involved with (and create!) the pack culture.

liinne (mates) & relahmik (courting)
-- Tahsedov takes a firm and respectful view of courting and taking a mate.

if a member takes a liking to another, they are first to present a liinofan (mate gift). this gift asks for permission to begin relahmik (courting). if the other member accepts the gift, then the courtship may begin.

the first member will then present a chosen skill in an attempt to show their worth as a liin (mate). this skill may be anything from hunting, to fighting, to even singing. if the second member approves of the skill, they will then present their own skill.

if both members approve of each other's skills, they will then spend a day apart from each other. this day is to be spent thinking about the other, deciding whether they truly wish to accept each other as liinne (mates). the dawn of the next day they will meet once more, and give their decisions.

if both members have decided to become mates, they will then seek out the kinbok (leader; alpha), and ask for her blessing. Darastrix will then call the pack together, and present the couple as mates. this is to ensure that the entire pack is away of the union, so that they may give their support and celebration, but also to keep from a mistake of liinofan (mate gift) to an already mated wolf (which is a very serious offense and usually requires a fight to settle the matter).

after they have been presented as liinne to the pack, the pair may now do as they wish. traditionally, they will go on a hunt with each other to seal their bond. it is up to the couple whether they wish to breed and produce a litter--the kinbok will have already given them permission to do so at the liinrevkoron (mate ceremony).

if a wolf presents a liinofan to member who is already mated, it is considered a very serious offense, and utterly disrespectful. the mated wolf and/or their mate usually require a fight to settle the matter. if the offending wolf wins the fight, it is up to the mated wolf who was not involved in the fight to decide whether they will go with them as their new mate or not. if the offending wolf loses, they are chased away from the situation (not from the pack altogether, depending) and held in ill-regard.

krif (fight)
-- Tahsedov do not shy away from fighting, but they are not bloodthirsty.

that which cannot be solved with words, can be solved through a brief krif (fight).

all fights within the pack are never to cause serious injury or maiming. pack members are expected to conduct themselves respectfully, even when having a krif.

rel (dominance) within the pack is decided through relkriffe (dominance fights). to rise the hierarchy ladder, a wolf may challenge within one rung of their own. if they win, they take the same rung as their opponent. the opponent does not lose a rung. this will be further explained in the hierarchy section.

pack members are expected to keep their fighting skills at least warm. no member is expected to be an absolute warrior in battle, but no member should be completely helpless either (unless they are elderly or young).

HiERARCHY & RANKS.

Tahsedov uses two separate systems for the pack: suleykoz (hierarchy), and leykke (ranks).

suleykoz (hierarchy) is a ladder that shows the dominance of the members within the pack. if a member is dominant over (above on the ladder) another, they eat before that member, that member will move out of their way, and may give very basic commands to that member. if a member is submissive to (below on the ladder) another member, they will eat after that member, will move out of that member's way, and must follow basic commands given to them by that member.

a member may gain rungs on the stegniir (ladder) by challenging other members and winning a relkrif (dominance fight). a member may only challenge within one rung of their own position. if there is no wolf above them to challenge, they may challenge a wolf within their own rung.

if a challenger wins a relkrif with a higher member, they will then take up position on that same rung as the higher member. the higher member will not lose a rung, they will remain where they are. this is because the relkrif was between only those two wolves, not the entire pack, and therefore the higher member does not automatically become submissive to a different wolf if they lose to a challenger.

if a challenger wins a relkrif with a member on their same rung, they will move up one rung on the stegniir. the other member will remain where they are.

if a challenger loses a relkrif with another member, they will stay on their own rung. the other member will remain where they are as well.

if a relkrif breaks out and cannot be solved by the members, the kinbok (leader; alpha) will step in and decide a victor.

leyk (rank) is completely separate from suleykoz (hierarchy).

a member's leyk within the pack is determined by what role they play. if they excel at hunting, they are given the ahsetah (hunter of the pack) leyk. if they are great at fighting, they may request to become a vokunsetah (warrior of the pack), and so on.

just because one member is a vokunsetah, and another is a fronsetah (kin of the pack; member), does not mean that one wolf is dominant over the other. rel (dominance) is decided only by sulykoz (hierarchy), never by leyk.

leykke (ranks) may be requested at any time.

MiSSiONS.

Tahsedov will have missions that are available for members to take and complete IC.

missions can be anything from patrolling borders, to hunting, to scouting, and more.

each mission has their own reward(s), which is usually pawprints, but can also include IC items such as armor or crafting materials. completing missions may also earn one respect within the pack, and may move them up the suleykozstegniir (hierarchy ladder).

LET'S GET THiS STARTED.

of course, a pack is nothing without members. to follow the site rules for creating a pack, Darastrix must meet at least three members in separate IC threads and ask if they would be interested in starting a pack with her. then there will be a thread with all of the founding members claiming a land, and thus, the pack is created.

however, given Darastrix's personality, and what i have planned for her, it won't be a simple meet-and-greet to find founding members. she isn't the type to meet someone and just straight ask them to create a pack with her. instead, when she meets someone, she will test their dominance, and decide whether she would like to have them in the pack, before she asks them to create a pack with her.

i don't want you to be caught off-guard if you want to join and have a thread with Dara, so this is how it will most likely happen:

Dara will meet your wolf, and immediately try to dominate them. she will base her initial opinion of them on their reaction. if a full fight is needed instead of a play of dominance and submission, that's fine. after the dispute (and Dara must come out on top to consider them for her pack, otherwise she wouldn't be much of an alpha, y'know?) she will speak with them. converse. be pleasant. this conversation is how she will decide whether the wolf has the personality traits to be a good pack member. bloodthirsty, crazy, or completely arrogant, wolves will be considered "unstable" and unfit to be in her pack. pretty much anyone else who is willing to commit to the pack culture, follow her as their alpha, and treat pack members like family (though they are more than welcome to be awkward or somewhat indifferent, so long as they are loyal), are considered pack material.

at that point, she will explain the idea of the pack to them, and invite them to create the pack with her.

so... after i've thrown all of this crazy information at you, who's willing to create this pack with me and Dara? :D
